Sainsbury's Support the WISH Appeal

Sainsbury's Support the WISH Appeal

Wednesday 9 Sep 2009

Every year, my team at Sainsbury's Scunthorpe do a fantastic job in supporting worthy causes both nationally and in the local community. However, I constantly had colleagues telling me they wanted to do more and wanted to try to make a real difference to peoples lives. This feedback was common across the company and therefore Sainsbury's launched the 'Local Charity of the Year' scheme.

This gave the customers and colleagues in my store the opportunity to nominate and choose a charity they wanted to support so that it was personal to them. Here in Scunthorpe we received hundreds of nominations for some fantastic charitable organisations. There was a great response for many different local charities, all of whom were deserving of support. However, in order to make the final difficult decision my colleague council (a group of key colleagues who represent the store) visited some of the organisations and having done so, their minds were made up!

The team were overwhelmed by the work of Lincolnshire House and felt passionately that this is the charity they wanted to support. Although just a few months in, I know they made the right decision. During our early efforts to raise funds the residents and staff of Lincolnshire House have been fantastic and have been regular visitors to the store. So much so, to me they already feel part of the team! We are really proud to be linked with such a great group of people and we are looking forward to the year ahead!
